Christine McNair’s alternate lives as a book doctor and a letterpress operator are evident on every page of pleasantries and other misdemeanours. She builds poems carefully, with respect for each component part and the coherence of the whole. Reading these poems, one has the sense that each letter was set with equal care, and the poems sing in the tension between experiment and control.
