Jim Smith, across his bibliography, has demonstrated a sustained interest in interrogating the work of poets he admires. This vein of his poetry examines the role of the act of reading in the act of writing, as well as the implications of each generation’s responses to those previous. Exit Interviews picks up these fertile threads and questions by composing from within the published work of deceased poets. These interviews are elegies and celebrations that continue vital acts of dialogue.
